Joe Schmid’s Catholic Miracle Claims Are About to Be Put on Trial

¶1Well, ladies and gentlemen, it seems that everybody really enjoyed my response to Craig Evans. Uh, I've heard his name a hundred times, thousands of times probably, I mean, throughout the years with Christian apolog apologists and they will constantly reference his book on Acts or his book on this. And I get it, he's a PhD, but I think I caught him with his pants down. And I think, you know, most of you saw that. >> Daddy, chill.

¶2>> What the HELL IS EVEN THAT? BUT, you know, I think I need to return to Joe Schmid. All right. Joe Schmid came out with his miracle video. I have not sat and watched these enormous videos.

¶3It's going to take some work. So, I'm going to I'm going to ask I'm going to plead with you, the audience, to please when I put this series out, show us some love, hype it, like it, comment, share, etc. because I'm going to go through and deal with much of what he puts out in his videos about the miracles of the Catholic Church and whatnot and how this affirms the Catholic faith. I'm going to go through it with the tools that I know the same way I dealt with Craig Evans, the same way I apply the historical methodology to so many things. I'm going to do a series.

¶4I'm going to play clips from his video. I'm going to come in and I'm going to give you where the evidence seems to point and do a deep dive in the research here. And I hope that you'll join me for that because he opened his video. He opened his video by going >> there's overwhelming evidence for Catholic miracles. >> Like this is like the strongest evidence.

¶5Like it's so obvious. It's just so and and I think he's completely like just given up on the critical side and went full-blown in like into believing and found ways to reconcile any way he can including miracles and philosophical ideas and whatever to make his beliefs work. And guess what? He's being rewarded right now. He's lovebombed.

¶6He's being 100% supported. And that the support is outweighing the criticism, which is fine. It's it's it is what it is. I mean, let's be honest, most people believe in this world that we live in, especially in the West. Most people I know are Christians.

¶7And so, you're going to get that kind of support. And and you got to factor in that his family, right? They looked at him for 10 years as a lost cause. Here he is back in the fold. What do you want better?

¶8You're accepted by your own family now. So, I'm going to do a series. I'm going to go through break down the miracles, do a debunk series. I think that that would be useful. Are there anything else on the radar?

¶9I'm just dropping this video today. I want to get your thoughts. Are there any other things happening on the radar as far as, you know, something that I can do responding to debunking kind of stuff um pertaining to miracles, pertaining to uh arguments of Bible, whatever you guys think that might be interesting. In the meantime, I'm going to be putting together likely at least a five-part series going through some of what Joe Schmid said. Uh the video is like seven hours, so I'm not going to go through the whole the whole thing.

¶10I'm just not going to do it. It's just way too much way too much stuff. If the reward is there, here we are talking about rewards and we see that hey, doing the series works, it makes sense, then I'll proceed. But I I really want to dismantle some of these claims that he brought up. And it's really interesting to think of the psychology of someone who's been so hesitant and cautious and careful.

¶11um hearing a few things that I imagine are outside of his his focus, things that he doesn't really dwell on much and somehow what were all the dominoes that went on in his mind to make him fold, right, to go into to this position. It's it's very interesting to see how that can happen to almost anybody. And I mean, but he's already kind of teetered in that way being an agnostic and very sympathetic to many people in the faith side. Uh, I don't know what the the ca what was the straw like that finally. All right, enough.

¶12Enough. I'm done. So, I'm gonna do that. Also, I want to give you a heads up. We've dropped one, two, three, four, four documentaries at least.

¶13Um, I'm I've got like right now in the works, four documentaries being currently edited. I've got three more right now I'm narrating. reach out if you're interested in putting a production together, a documentary video of your own, you know, ideas that you have, whether it's an argument, an article, a book, uh, something in history. The cool thing about Mike Cai's video is that he brought out Thomas Payne. Never have I ever done a video on Thomas Payne on his channel.

¶14And man, I had a hoot making that video. uh covering I didn't realize how scathing and how critical this guy was as a founding father of the United States to Christianity not to God the guy believed in a god but he believed that Christianity was a front to his god his rational perfect being god that this god clearly wasn't that and it's just been a fascinating journey honestly so thank you to all the love and support people who are checking out some of the some of the stuff I've been doing I plan on doing more. I've tackled a lot of stuff on this channel. Um, a lot of you don't watch all my content. I understand it's a lot.

¶15I get it. But if you have other topics that you think are really hitting the radar right now, like what we've seen with Joe Schmid, I'm looking to hit some of these heavy hitters and trying to, you know, show methodically why I'm not persuaded and why you should also be cautious. make your own decisions, but why you should be cautious and does the evidence really point in the direction that they claim it does. Is that really the most obvious fact? You know, I got a lot of crap um from some of the commenters and even after I put up my second video, I got a few comments.

¶16They must not have seen my second video or some of them have seen my second video and they still said that I still strawman Craig Evans. I still straw man him. And I'm like, well, because they said, well, he's just pointing out the ridiculous versions of natural hypothesis. Have Craig Evans make a video with Paul Gia where he's saying, "I don't think that this naturalistic explanation is ridiculous. In fact, I think these 10 natural explanations are actually very plausible and reasonable conclusions to draw.

¶17If not, why does he get to Jodie Magnus and then go, "Oh, she's Jewish. No wonder she can't draw the conclusion. Why is he finding her her the motivation her worldview and that's why she can't go to the conclusion of well it doesn't prove its history. It just means the person knows some very similitude that the person understands that the how real burials for rich people happened in the first century. I mean he's an educated author.

¶18Why couldn't he have known some of this stuff? Why couldn't he have researched some of this stuff or talked to people who could explain how this worked? Or maybe he like many people traveled and he went through the land and saw and heard and understood how some of the stuff operated. Maybe. I mean there's just so many plausibilities.

¶19But I caught crap from a few people and I want to make the point that if he laid out several reasonable and listen to this, was it really reasonable? Was he admitting to reasonleness that if Joseph of Arythea didn't exist? Does he think that that's reasonable to think Joseph of Arythea doesn't exist? He never conceded that point. Now, if he' have said, "I think it is reasonable to doubt Joseph of Arythea's existence, and therefore doubting his existence would remove the potential for putting Jesus in a tomb," then okay.

¶20Like, if he thinks it's reasonable Joseph of Arythea didn't exist and he conceded that point, then we'd be on like, "Okay, Derek, maybe you should soften just a little bit." No, he doesn't conceive Joseph of Arythea not existing as a thing. He just says if he didn't exist, then yeah, you could you could go that path. But I guarantee you inside of that apologist noggin of his, he's thinking, "Yeah, but that ain't the case. This is history." And this is what often happens. So you could call it straw man if you want.

¶21I played the full clip in the second video because in the first one, I just wanted to get the hot spot. I didn't want to play you 90 seconds to 2 minutes worth of material. then finally join the conversation. I wanted you to see a few of these spots, but I guess some of you didn't watch the original uh video by um by uh my buddy Paul Gia. I think most of you who saw it could see what I'm saying.

¶22And did I kind of compress the fact that the ancient are ancients dumb? And then of course dumb theories and silly hypo hypothesis and it's preposterous and all this stuff. Yeah, but he is kind of thinking in the same world. Like you think the ancients are so stupid based on your stupid hypothesis. And here's the deal.

¶23I want to lay this out. As many of you have commented, well, I think Swoon is ridiculous. I don't think he survived. You can have that opinion. But the swoon hypothesis in my mind is infinitely more probable, infinitely more likely than the 3-day no oxygen in the corpse resurrection of Jesus.

¶24To me, there like the least probable position is the resurrection. That is my honest position. And this wasn't even me delving into literary aspects. literary observations, meaning look at legends and myths and fables of other stories where men die. Women die too, but men die more often than not in the myths and they come back from the dead.

¶25And you go, where's this? Anyone who reads Eskeipius knows he's raised people from the dead according to their legends. Why do we know that? Because Zeus kills him for it. Zeus literally strikes Eskeipius dead.

¶26I think I have him over here somewhere. Let me see if I can't find Eskeipius, y'all. Bear with me. I've got a ton of Greek gods, but I don't know, man. I might have.

¶27Is this him? That's Hades. That's Poseidon. I got Esipius somewhere over here. Okay.

¶28All I want to say is this. Esipius in the legends, in the stories, is killed because he kept raising people from the dead and preventing them from going to Hades. Hades is calling the man upstairs. Hey Jesus, check it out, bro. Yeah, listen.

¶29Uh, I've got no one walking through my doors right now. Yeah, we got a problem. This guy, Eskeipius. Then Apollo comes to Zeus. He goes, "Hey, man.

¶30What the hell was that? That was my son." And then of course they make him an Olympian according to the myths or the legends. Now the problem is is there's very similitude and I this is the funny part. This brings CS Lewis in. This brings this brings uh so many other people who've thought about this um who's the philosopher who talks about the scape scapegoat hypothesis or scapegoat theory.

¶31Um and he talks about mimisis. Uh they talk about this is the the true myth. This is the historical myth. And I'm not so sure. I'm not so sure that's the case.

¶32By the way, there's another quote from uh um Heracles dies. Typhon, the god Typhon, of course, kills him and he's brought back to life by a qualbird, the scent of a qualbird in front of his nose resurrects Heracles from death according to the text. Ancient material. This material is older than the New Testament. And I'm thinking to myself, this isn't like the sneaky little move that most apologists do where they go, "Oh, well, Osiris resurrects, but he goes into the underworld." Bro, if we're going to pull that stunt, then Jesus resurrects and then goes into heaven, but his body's temporarily here.

¶33But why not stay? Why not set up your throne on earth and stay here? Why go somewhere we can't find you and we can't get you and we can't prove that you're up there and you're doing like, it's evidently literary. And I just think most people are sleeping on the literary. We're going to keep pounding that one in.

¶34We're going to keep pounding that one in. Look, if you have an idea, again, it's helping our channel to grow by by getting documentaries because they're polished. They're professional. My editors make sure that it's a really, really good video. They're evergreen.

¶35And we've had some really good ideas. I've not seen much of these arguments in my entire career on Myth Vision, and I'm hearing a lot of them for the first time through people like you. So, like the videos that we do, hype the videos that we do, share the videos that we do, comment down below, and yell at me if you don't like what I'm saying. If you like what I'm saying, scream at me from the comments down below, okay? Let me know you're here because we're not giving up.

¶36It's been eight years. I've been doing this for eight years full-time, I believe. And you know, I see a lot of older YouTubers, older YouTube channels, they kind of get the, you know, all right, I'm getting winded. And I felt that way before. I've had some struggling moments.

¶37But I'm going to tell you something. I feel like we're just beginning. And if there's a time in history where this needs to be, I think, louder and go out stronger, we need more more education, more knowledge, more history, more mythology, more knowing and learning this stuff. It's now than ever. >> This is smarter.

¶38>> It's affecting the real world we live in, the choices and decisions people are making on a day-to-day ba basis. how people live their lives, how it affects other people that may not fit in their in their cra in their tribe, in their camp. I think we're making real changes and I think it's for the betterment. I really do. You know, I don't care that people draw the conclusions that I drew or believe like I believe.

¶39You don't need to. You don't need to. I don't care. I'm not trying to make a tribe. I want various tribes of people to find common ground and just try to look at history and study this stuff without fundamentalism.

¶40That fundamentalism is not like only a Christian thing. It's a human thing and it goes into all camps, including non-believing camps. I just want more of us to try our best to get along and be willing to say when I think things are false. At the end of the day, I'm guilty of being not perfect at this. When I call out Craig Evans, you know, I'm keeping it real with you.

¶41I'm telling you how I feel and why I feel the way that I felt. And I think a lot of you felt the same way. And I'm not trying to like in real world, I wouldn't have this problem with this guy. Just the way that he was coming off on Paul's video was like, "Bro, chill out." Cuz he took that to a whole another level. >> And took it to a whole another You know what I'm saying?

¶42Key pill. Love that. Love that show. Anyway, I love y'all. Look.

¶43Look. I'm having fun. I'm having fun. I hope you're having fun, too. Stay tuned.

¶44Joe Schmid, my buddy, my good old Catholic friend. I want to bring some insight to these miracles from a different perspective. You know, it would have been really cool if Joe Schmid would have done a series of videos critiquing all the Catholic miracles, really giving them, ripping them a new one. But because he never did that, it's hard to know if he's ever actually gauged these miracle claims from that skeptical mindset. And when that switch turns off and he's going full believer, I'm wondering if he's just allowing so much to pass through the gate without being very careful and cautious.

¶45Is he using as much as he can to try and accumulate data that helps support his belief so that he can fit comfortably in his social settings? I don't know. Oh, I don't want to just psychoanalyze the guy, but it wouldn't shock me if there was some of that going on. Tell me what you think. I love y'all.

¶46Documentaries, Joe Schmidt, Catholicism, miracle stuff. Tell me if there's other things that are going on that I'm blind to and I just don't see so I can get, you know, get my little armor, my shield on my sword and come out for combat. You know what I'm saying? Love y'all. Hey, stay tuned.
